There are many factors to consider when packaging and crating for international shipments. Many foreign countries require that all crates made out of wood being shipped from the U.S be heat treated to reduce the risk of pest infestation. These crates require an approved stamp known as the " bug stamp" or ISPM-15 mark, certifying that the crate meets international shipping standards. Just being Heat treated isn’t enough. You must have the ISPM-15 certification stamp in order to ensure that your crate will pass inspection at its destination and not be held up in customs.

The International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures Guidelines for Regulating Wood Packaging Material in International Trade (ISPM15) is one of several International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures adopted by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). The IPPC is an international treaty to secure action to prevent the spread and introduction of pests of plants and plant products, and to promote appropriate measures for their control. ISPM15 is a standard on which many countries WPM regulations are based upon.
